Video

Above is a video produced to promote the DVD of SIMON BOCCANEGRA, featuring Kiri Te Kanawa, Michael Sylvester, Alexandru Agache and Roberto Scanduzzi from Covent Garden with Sir Georg Solti Conducting.
The very same SIMON BOCCANEGRA as above, Act 1 duet between Amelia (Kiri Te Kanawa) and Adorno (Michael Sylvester) and the Adorno/Fiesco duet that follows.
Adorno’s aria, O! Inferno, from SIMON BOCCANEGRA.
This is the Counsel Chambers scene from the same SIMON BOCCANEGRA.
The Finale to the SIMON BOCCANEGRA referenced above. http://youtu.be/W46AcTBruQc
This is from the MET’s Sony Classical recording of Verdi’s DON CARLO (Sylvester, Millo, Furlanetto, Zajick, Chernov, Ramey, Plishka; James Levine, conductor) This is the Recit section before the aria (which is below). Why they chose to split them I do not know.
Carlo’s aria, which begins with the recit section above.
I love this scene from the beginning of the MET’s Sony Classical recording of Verdi’s DON CARLO (Michael Sylvester, Aprile Millo, with Jane Bunnell; James Levine, conductor)
The lesser known aria from from Puccini’s TURANDOT, Non piangere, Liu. As above, also from David Hockney’s beautiful production, filmed in at the San Francisco Opera and available on DVD.
Duet from Bellini’s NORMA – Norma – Carol Vaness & Michael Sylvester
“In mia man,” – San Francisco Opera, 1998
A clip from Cherubini’s Medea, the aria Or che piu non vedro.
The clip above is from a 1988 performance of Bellini’s NORMA in Caracas, Venezuela. The cast was Adelaida Negri (Norma), Nina Moreno (Adalgisa) and Michael Sylvester (Pollione). Negri was a last minute replacement for the scheduled soprano, who had become ill right before rehearsals began.

This is the complete performance of NORMA referenced above.

This is the last recording I have of a performance in my professional career. A week or so after this, I went to Spain to perform the Verdi Requiem again at the Alhambra with Esa-Pekka Salonen conducting. That was May 2001 and it was my last professional performance before I retired. Over the next decade I sang some recitals and a couple of concerts, but nothing for professionally for pay.
